When Should You Replace Your Furnace?

The cold winter weather is here, which means it’s time to make sure your furnace is up to the task of keeping you warm. However, your furnace won’t last forever.

Adam’s Healthy Home has provided a checklist to help you identify the warning signs that you may need a new furnace.

  • Your furnace is more than 15 years old – A typical furnace has a life span of around 20 to 30 years – if taken care of properly. However, it is advisable to consider shopping for a new furnace at around the 15-year mark, since that is when the system begins to break down.
  • Your energy bills and equipment repairs are increasing – Older furnaces have to work harder to produce heat, and as a result, your energy bills and repair costs will steadily increase.
  • The rooms throughout your home are different temperatures – As a furnace gets older, it can become more inefficient until it loses the ability to distribute heat evenly throughout your house. As a result, some rooms can be colder than others.
  • Your furnace is extra noisy – If you hear rattling, popping, humming, or screeching and squealing from your furnace, it may be time to consider getting a replacement.

If you experience any of these issues with your current furnace, it’s time to consider a furnace replacement, rather than paying for tons of repairs.
